The connection between your waist and your health

The ideal measures of your waist should be 0.95 for men and 0.8 for women. Above this figures you put your health in danger because your body will deposit fat around your waist, which may lead to diabetes or cardiovascular diseases. However, you can still have a large waist if you are an athlete and you have a considerable muscular mass. In this case, you can stay calm, as the high BMI only counts the inches.

The fat around your middle is very important for your health and, unlike waist fat, it can produce diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer or even cancer. Age plays an important role in fat deposit because human body works differently when it is young or when it is old.

When you are in your 40s, you are more predisposed to fat deposit because your body produces a substance called oestrogen, making it easier to attract the fats. Stress is also a key element that affects this area, due to the energy that your body takes from your middle, in order to fight it back. Once we get older, our muscular mass is reduces and with it the strength of our metabolism too.

You can also have this condition when you’re in your 30s. Starting from this age, the growth hormone, called somatotropin, fails to be produced in the same quantity as when you were young. This increases the glucose level, which eventually increases the insulin level.

In case your shape is not the ideal one and you want to lose weight, you should focus on the waist, instead of your hips. This is the area that implies the risk. But what to do?

Correct your diet

Try to consume fewer calories, but be aware that following a popular diet/regime is not a successful choice. Opinions regarding this concept are split. Some people encourage oscillating fasting with normal diet, while others say that 3 meals and 2 snacks in between every day is the perfect recipe for a perfect shape.

Other specialists encourage you to consume as much raw food or soups as possible. The nutrients they contain will give you the sensation of satiety.

But perhaps the best advice is to know how to eat. Take a longer period of time to chew the food, in order to improve your digestion. Moreover, water intake, at least 2 liters per day, should improve your metabolism by 30%.

Do exercises

Exercises are meant to stimulate blood circulation and strengthen your metabolism. You can opt for anaerobic exercises, which will release a lot of energy or stomach exercises, which reduce your waist.

Relax

You should take this situation with calm and think at what you have to do next; stress can only worsen it. You can either take a longer bath, go to the spa or go out with your friends.
